The ultimatum issued by Public Action Committee (PAC) on the district administration to rein in illegal, unabated and multiple taxation being imposed in Dimapur by various so-called state and non-state actors, would end on Monday, September 30.
The PAC had warned that if prices of commodities continue to remain unchecked and unregulated after the expiry of its deadline, then it will be compelled to resort to severe agitation.
Talking to this Reporter over phone, PAC convenor Vekhoyasi Nyekha said the PAC will wait for the response of the district administration till Monday and review the situation.
He also said the DMC assured that it will stop issuing contract lease for tax collection to private agents after expiry of current agreement by October 2019.
If there is no response, then he said PAC will convene an emergency meeting of all its members and other stakeholders to chalk out their next course of action. He said the response could be in the form of an indefinite bandh of Dimapur and for which the district administration and authorities would be held solely responsible.
