S. Pangnyu Phom, minister for Health and Family Welfare said that it was time to launch a war against drugs in Longleng district and that students should lead in this mission.

A press release from the organisers stated that, S Pangnyu Phom said this in his address during the 61st general session of Yachem Students Union (YSU) on December 17 at Yachem village in Longleng district.
Phom reminded the students’ community that geographically and on population basis, Longleng was very small but the district was grappling a very high drug addiction rate. In this regard, he said that YSU should lead in the mission against drugs.
Phom lamented that, “we cannot afford to see our brothers becoming slave of drug. Do not ask what your society can do for you but ask what you can do for your society and church.”
He further encouraged the students’ community to preserve the Phom identity through the rich culture, tradition and custom while giving importance to one’s mother tongue. He called on the students to have a positive mindset which would enable them to reach their goal.
“If you want a successful life, set a secret agenda. We are living in a competitive world, so have a competitive spirit.  We have high percentage of educated unemployed but less employment opportunities” he exhorted, while reminding them that Nagaland was facing employment scarcity and the young educated should not see government job as the only means to survive.
Wherever the employment opportunities are available, avail them through competition and merit, he encouraged.
“The world has become small with the coming of technology. Our life is being controlled and monitored by technology. But our technology has both negative and positive impact, we should understand its value and use it judiciously”, he concluded.
