Phek thonga project (production) unit was inaugurated September 14, by CEO Kohima smart city (KSC) and administrator KMC Kovi Meyase while public toilet was inaugurated by smart city, Kohima joint CEO Kohima Avelu Ruho. 

A press release from Phek Town Youth Society (PTYS) Phek press secretary Kedupa Venuh stated that during the programme, Kovi congratulated the people of Phek for being advanced in dealing with the plastic menace in the state. He lauded the community for the unity that has brought tremendous changes for welfare of the people and for their consistent spirit. 

Kovi mentioned that there are two units in Dimapur and one in Phek. It may be mentioned that DC Phek Kovi launched the use of paper bags in 2017 at Phek which was the first in Nagaland and one of the first in India.

Avelu briefed the gathering on how the fund was arranged for the construction of public toilet which was felt necessary especially for travellers. She said that the fund was managed from “Beti Bachhao Beti Pathao”. She said the toilet will be maintained and taken care of by one woman already assigned. Avelu also briefed about how the money was arranged for project thonga, wherein full fund was given to PTYS and that the unit comprises of better machineries.  

She further thanked and congratulated the public for their cooperation for which people of Phek town gas come this far. 

Sachin Jaiswal while delivering short speech pointed out the day as an important day for the people of Phek as the project will determine the future specially in waste management. He called upon the public in general to support the project. At the programme, keynote address was delivered by Seyeingoi Soho.
