PDR alleges backdoor appointments in Tourism dept; demands action

DIMAPUR, JUL 10 (NPN) | Publish Date: 7/10/2018 11:51:01 PM IST
People for Democratic Rights (PDR) on Tuesday alleged that the Tourism department, after flouting all government norms, made backdoor appointments of two tourist officers on June 4, 2016; three tourist assistants on December 6, 2017 and two tourist assistants on April 19, 2018.
According to acting chairman of PDR, Ihoto Shohe the entry point in the department was Tourist Assistant, which should be recruited through NPSC.
However, PDR alleged that the department had superseded the cabinet memo order no. CAB/2/2013 dated 12 May 2016 banning all temporary and contract appointments.
Further, PDR claimed that of the seven appointments, two tourist officers and four tourist assistants were children of officers in the Tourism department.
In this regard, PDR has asked the state government to immediately cancel all such backdoor/illegal appointments.
It said that the appointment of seven persons “on temporary basis on pick and choose policy without recruiting through the NPSC” had resulted in eligible candidates being denied the right of equal opportunity.
It further cautioned that the forum would expose bigger lapses and misuse of office by those officers in department.
PDR has also warned of legal recourse against those erring officers involved in the appointment process if the Government failed to take befitting action against them for misuse of office.
Meanwhile, PDR expressed dismay that the Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection department has failed to make public its response with regard to its statement published on June 18 last.
Therefore, PDR has reminded LMCP department to publish its response in the local dailies after which PDR said it would respond and take necessary steps as deemed fit.
