Hepatitis-B vaccination for health workers was launched on April 1 at District Hospital Phek.

A press release from district media officer Phek, Kutolu Nakro stated that the program was launched by district immunization officer, Phek, Dr. Kolhitso Khalo. In his inaugural speech, Khalo said that all health workers need to be protected because they are one of the high risk groups vulnerable to contracting Hepatitis infections.
Medical specialist District Hospital Phek, Dr. Limanukshi gave a technical briefing. He said Hepatitis –B is transmitted through blood products and body fluids. Apart from health care personnel, other high risk group include people with multiple sex partners, dialysis patients and recipients of organ transplantations. Hepatitis-B infection, in the long run, leads to liver damage and cancer of the liver. The disease can however be prevented by receiving three doses of Hepatitis-B vaccine at 0, 1 and 6 months. The program was attended by doctors, nurses and other staff.
