PIB press tour team returns home

Press Information Bureau (PIB) press tour team led by Deputy Director PIB Imphal also in charge of PIB Kohima Abdul Hamid who left to Rajasthan on September 20 returned home on September 27.

It was the first initiative of the PIB Kohima to organize tour for the journalist in the state that was sponsored by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting through PIB Kohima. 

During the seven days touring the journalist visited the Non Suburban Railway station Jodhpur, Rajasthan that has earned the fame of being the cleanest station in the country in 2018 by Quality Council of India out of the 407 assessed railway stations. Beating the soaring temperature of the dry land of Jaisalmer district, the team visited the Tejuva wind power plant, around 38 kilometres away from Jaisalmer that produces 4000 megawatts of power through windmill energy out of the total requirement of 10,000 MWs for the Rajasthan state.

The wind farm has 96 Wind Turbine Generators (WTG) in operation and it was a part of the Jaisalmer Wind Park, the second largest onshore wind farm in the country.

To queries on prospect of setting up wind mills in Nagaland Assistant General Manager Suresh Bagada said that elevation should not be an issue for the state yet he said the primary requirement was three years of Wind Data to ascertain if a place was suitable to be installed with such plants.

The team also visited Central Arid Zone Research Institute (CAZRI), one of the biggest research institutes of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) that exclusively decides to arid zone research and development.

CAZRI has managed to bring reformation in the state by reducing desert efficacy by converting the sand areas into producers of different vegetable and fruits. Also the team members visited Arid Forest Research Institute (AFRI) Jodhpur the institute that conducts scientific research in forestry to provide technologies to increase the vegetative cover and to conserve biodiversity in the hot arid and semi-arid regions of Rajasthan and Gujarat.

It was learnt that following the establishment of the institute there has been an increase of 7-8% of forest cover in Rajasthan while also AFRI technologically engages into increase the forest cover and productivity ultimately leading to improving of the living condition of the people.

On September 26, the media persons visited and interacted with the secretary Jodhpur Development Authority (JDA) O. P Bunkar RAS.

JDA was established for the purpose of planning, co-ordinating and supervising the proper, orderly and rapid development of the Jodhpur Region and for executing plans, projects and schemes for such development and to provide for matters connected there with. The team also had interaction with geology students of Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur, visited historical forts in Jaisalmer and Jodhpur, Recruit Training Centre of Central Reserve Police Force based in Jodhpur and returned to home state on September 27.
