Nonpok Sekmai police station of Manipur’s Thoubal district bagged this year’s India’s best police station trophy.
This was the third consecutive year that state’s police station was awarded the best police station of the country conferred by the Union ministry of home affairs.
Earlier, Nambol police station of Bishnupur district bagged the best police station trophy in 2018 and City police station of Imphal West district was selected for the same trophy in 2019.
Union home minister on Wednesday virtually presented the trophy to inspector Keisam Premkumar Mangang who is the officer in-charge (OC) of the police station during DsGP and IGsP Conference 2020 held at the conference hall of SIB (Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau) office in New Delhi, state police PRO informed in a statement.
The trophy was given in recognition of the professionalism, hard work, dedication and community oriented policing by Manipur police, the PRO said, and added that the department will continue to work hard with commitment and professionalism in the service of the people of the state in the years ahead.
The police station was able to bag the trophy due to sincere efforts of the OC and his team under the strict guidance of Thoubal district SP Dr S Ibomcha and under the supervision of senior officers of Manipur police department under the able leadership of state DGP LM Khoute and overall supervision of chief minister N Biren Singh who is also home minister of the state, the statement asserted.
The trophy for best police station in India was instituted after a directive of the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister during his address to a DsGP conference in Kutch, Gujarat in 2015 directed to lay down parameters for grading of police stations on their performance as well as feedback by citizens.
Accordingly, the annual assessment of the best police stations scheme was undertaken to identify and recognise 10 best police stations of the country and also the best police station in a particular state or union territory.
Under the initiative of the Union ministry of home affairs, in a view to encourage excellence in police work, Nongpok Sekmai police station was selected as the best police station of the country.
The selection was done after a team of officials of Union home ministry inspected the police station on October 10, 2020 and checked various parameters.
