Policemen quarantined after arrested drug peddler tests COVID-19 positive

 Personnel of a Manipur police team were put under quarantine after one of the three drug peddlers arrested by them tested positive for COVID-19. On September 10, a team of Kakching district police assisted by Thoubal district police arrested three persons with 10,000 pieces of WY tablets from Khongjom area along NH-102.

Of the three arrested, one of them tested COVID positive at Thoubal district hospital. 

Following the results on Saturday, the entire police team involved in the arrest of the drug peddler was put under isolation at a designated quarantine centre of the district police. After spread of COVID among the police personnel, each district police has a designated quarantine centre.

The casualty and trauma centre of the district hospital where medical check-up was conducted on the arrested paddlers before they were subjected to COVID-19 test has also been closed for 48 hours, till Monday, Thoubal district chief medical officer notified today. The centre will remain closed till 4 pm on Monday, it added.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 death toll in the state rose to 46 after an 86-year-old man from Churachandpur district expired on Sunday at RIMS hospital, Imphal, official reports of the state health department said.

144 new COVID cases were detected, including 11 CAPF after test of 2,388 samples to take the state’s infection tally to 7,875.

89 were discharged on Sunday taking the total recovery to 6191 as the recovery rate stood at 78.61.

The state has now 1638 active cases including 300 CAPF personnel.
