Poshan Maah activities organised in Wokha, Medziphema

Department of Social Welfare under Poshan Abhiyaan conducted Poshan Maah programme on innovative and suggestive actions on COVID-19 and breast feeding, nutrition, support for maintenance/development of kitchen garden at Wokha on September 15 at Lotha Eloe Hoho conference hall, Wokha. Programme focused on young mothers in collaboration with Lotha Eloe Hoho.

According to DIPR report, Dy. CMO, Wokha, Dr. Zuben Kikon while speaking on the topic COVID-19 & breast feeding said considering present scenario of the pandemic, enough awareness and sensitization was being disseminated as to how they should take preventive steps to stay protected from the virus. He stated that people should not discriminate those tested positive for COVID-19 but to help them overcome the mental trauma.
Kikon encouraged everyone to take nutritious and balanced diet food to boost immune system, and while speaking on breast feeding, he appealed mothers to breast feed babies exclusively for six months as this lowered the risk of breast cancer and other diseases. He also advised them to take protein rich nutritious food and green leafy vegetables. Encouraging young mothers to have a nutrition garden, area coordinator, livelihoods NSRLM, Apibeni Y Kikon highlighted on its benefits as low-cost management which was sustainable as well as organic.
Medziphema: Cooking competition under Poshan Maah was held on September 15 at CDPO’s office, Medziphema with chief technical officer, KVK Kenny as resource person. 
Resource person spoke on the importance of kitchen garden and also stressed on organic farming and also how to preserve the locally produced organic fruits and vegetables without wasting them.
Earlier, the cooking competition was held on locally available fruits and vegetables with emphasis on their nutritional values. Cash incentives were given where SEZO SHG, under NSRLM (RD) from Medziphema village was adjudged as best competitor. Citation and cash were handed over by chief judge, SDO civil Medziphema, Tokai V Sumi.
