Days after it has warned the state government to press the Central government for early assent to Manipur People’s Bill-2018, student wing of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) commenced its wall poster campaign on Monday.

Manipur People’s Bill-2018 which was passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly in August 2018 is yet to be implemented as an Act, pending assent from the President of India.

Expressing strong resentment over the delay in giving assent, JCILPS had recently warned of re-commencing its movement demanding implementation of ILPS or a similar legislation which will protect the indigenous people from ever increasing migrants.

Convener of the student wing of the JCILPS Dhanakumar Ningthouja said that the poster campaign was being launched to create awareness to the people on JCILPS’s movement for protection of indigenous people.

While demanding early President’s assent to the Manipur People Bill, 2018, the JCILPS pressed the state to take necessary steps to update the National Registration of Citizenship (NRC) at the earliest.

In the poster, the JCILPS called for maintaining work culture among the indigenous people and urged the people to stop hiring non-local labourers for works at home, including construction of houses and other structures. The JCILPS also asked house owners to report if they rented rooms to non-locals while urging the local youth clubs to cooperate with JCILPS in identifying non-local staying in the each locality.
