An IED weighing seven kgs was found planted on the roadside along Imphal-Churachandpur section of NH-150 on Saturday, following which traffic was blocked for some hours.

Troops of 42 Assam Rifles at Sendra in Bishnupur district on ROP duty along the highway detected the IED on the roadside at Moirang Meikrambi Leikai under Moirang police station of Bishnupur district bordering Churachandpur district around 8.30 am on Saturday.

Soon after the IED was found, the troops immediately blocked traffic along the highway as precautionary measure and informed the police at Moirang police station.

The police then called out bomb experts from the state police bomb detection and disposal squad from Imphal who defused the IED safely around 12.30 pm.

It was only after the IED was defused that normal traffic movement resumed along the Imphal-Churachandpur road (NH-150).

According to the police, explosive material like TNT and RDX were found used as explosive after it was examined by  bomb experts.

The police suspect the IED was planted by militants with an intention to target the security forces. A case has been registered and investigation has been initiated, the police said.
