In a major boost for the Nagaland badminton players, Nagaland Badminton Club under the aegis of Nagaland Badminton Association is introducing the 1st Nagaland Premier Badminton League 2019. The league will be played from May 29 to 31 at Indoor Badminton Stadium, Kohima. 

A total of six teams are in fray for the championship which carries a total cash prize of Rs 2,30,000 along with trophy and certificate for the winner and runner-up. There will also be individual awards for player of the league and most promising player.

Addressing a press conference in Kohima, Nagaland Badminton Club president, Er. John Metha said the league is being introduced to promote badminton in the state and also to give platform to young upcoming talents.  

The league will be played on best of seven matches. Teams with the highest points will qualify for the semi-finals-cum-knock out round. The matches will be played in best of three games of 21 points from the knock-out stage.

The categories of the league are U-15 boys single, U-17 girls single, U-19 boys doubles, men’s singles, men’s doubles, mixed doubles (men 40+ and open for women) and men’s 85+ doubles. The league will follow the rules and guidelines of Badminton World Federation and Badminton Association of India. The participating teams are Raging Phoenix from Kohima, Panama Shuttlers from Mon, Shuttle Rockers from Dimapur, All Bests Kohima, Kohima Smashers, Beits Badminton Club Kohima.
