Priestly ordination held at Chümoukedima

Reverend deacon, Mathew Neni Koso was ordained a priest for the diocese of Kohima on December 29 at St. Joseph’s Parish, Chümoukedima, by Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima. The motto of the new Priest was “you have the words of eternal life” (Luke 6:68)

A press release by the bishop’s secretary, Kohima, Fr. Victor Renthungo stated that Bishop in his introduction said that it was a red letter day for Catholic community of St. Joseph’s Parish, Chümoukedima to the diocese of Kohima and also for deacon Mathew Neni as he would be ordained a priest. Bishop also explained the prophetic, pastoral and priestly role of a priest and exhorted deacon Mathew to remember that it was to his life’s work to lift up Jesus Christ before men so that He may draw them unto Him. Bishop thanked, particularly, the family and relatives of Fr. Mathew for offering him to God and to the Church. 

Earlier, deacon Mathew Neni came in procession to the church with Bishop James, priests and family members. Assistant priest, St. Joseph’s Church, Rev. Fr. Peter Enni anchored the ceremony while parish priest, Rev. Fr. Anthony Dukru accorded the words of welcome to Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, invited guests, CAN, NCWA, NCYM and village chairman, dignitaries, priests and sisters from different parishes and other participants.

Felicitation was chaired by Emilo Ezung, congratulation song by St. Joseph parish youth, exhortation by bishop and president, Catholic Association of Nagaland, Johny Raungmei.
