Priestly ordination programme held at St. Peter’s Church, Nsong

Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima ordained reverend deacon Peter Pehiachanglu for the Dioceses of Kohima at St. Peter’s Church, Nsong under SFS parish Tening on January 15. Deacon Peter is the fifth Zeliang priest from Nagaland. 

A press release by Bishop’s secretary, Fr. Victor Renthungo stated that, Bishop in his introduction said that it was a red letter day for the Catholic community of St. Peter’s Church Nsong, and also for deacon Peter, because he will be ordained a priest. Bishop also explained the prophetic, pastoral and priestly role of a priest and exhorted deacon Peter to remember that it was to be his life-work to lift up Jesus Christ before men, so that He may draw them unto Him. Bishop thanked the family and relatives of Fr. Peter for offering him to God and to the Church. 

During the felicitation programme, voice of congratulations was offered by the SFS parish youth, Tening, exhortation and encouragements were pronounced by Bishop and Johny Raungmei, president Catholic Association of Nagaland.  Fr. Peter, the newly ordained Priest thanked all in turn. 

Earlier, programme was anchored by assistant priest to St. Paul’s Church Pungro, Rev. Fr. Dominic Kwettrangging as master of ceremony and Sr. Rufina CMC as the commentator. Welcome address was delivered by parish priest SFS Tening, Rev. Fr. Paul Panü. Fr. Peter is the fourth son of thirteen siblings. Sr. Sharon the eldest sister of Rev. Fr. Peter acknowledged the presence of the all on behalf of the family. Invited guests, CAN, NCWA, NCYM and village chairman, dignitaries, priests and sisters from different parishes and other participants attended the programme.
