Problem and role of women

It is important that women have freedom, because they are the ones who gives birth to future generation. Every women must be imbued with the knowledge that, ‘Yes, I can do what I want and the law is there to help me’. The Indian laws that apply to women are actually more advanced than any other country and the State does provide women with full machinery to exercise their rights, but they have to be exercised on a personal level. Social laws and reforms have not kept pace with the law. We are so averse to change in the bus because there is a better place further up, she won’t do it. In this sort of society, to bring about any short of change is difficult.

Religion and society ascribe impossible virtues to women and thus confine women to a narrow sphere of behavior. The good woman is the one who remains faithful to her husband, sacrifices her own aspirations, and dreams for the sake of family and children. She accepts beatings, torture and every kind of humiliation from the family and society. Again, we find some women who tries to live upto the role, status and temperament. The present trend of male-domination, which have prevented the women from taking advantages for coming forward in our social life, has to be examined before we call their role in development. For society looks upon the women as a property of man, but rape, adultery, kidnapping and seduction are prevailing in the society. These acts are crime and against human kind. The male himself made the women to think that performing domestic chores, if possible effectively, have been their responsibility, this domestic burden should not prevent their role and place in the society.

The gender inequalities are the main problem from the women, on the pretext that women are inferior. The order of deep-rooted pretext of inferiority of women should be removed first, if we really want them to develop themselves useful to the society. Mahatma Gandhi involved women –power in his non-violent struggled that aroused their consciousness gave them self- confidence and a sense of challenge. Many of our brave plans and movements stop halfway because of the condition of women:  which remains unutilized due to lack of equal participation. Jawaharlal Nehru once said: “I am quite sure that our real and basic growth will only come when the inherent ability of women have a full chance to play their part in public life., I am proud of the women of India, I am proud of their beauty, grace, charm, modesty’ intelligence and their spirit of sacrifice and I think if anybody can represent the spirit of India, the women can do and not man. Every time that a woman has been sent abroad done well, not only done well but produced a fine impression about the womanhood of India”.

A perfect society shall be established when the women sustain their privileged position in a constant upward movement off opportunities for the generality of women.  The women also should liberate themselves from age-old psychological and mental shackles of their own. They do not need to be unnecessary aggressive or unfeminine in asserting their individuality in life and work. They must set aside the grip of mental-psychological attitudes which are male-dominated. The rational and for upliftment the living standard of the women should have base and social force behind it.
