Progressive farmers attend inter-state training

A six day’s inter-state farmers’ training programme was organized at Experimental Farm, Hawalbagh of ICAR-VPKAS, Almora, under North Eastern Hill (NEH) from September 25-30. 

A press release from ICAR, stated that 17 progressive farmers representing 17 districts from North Eastern Hill (NEH) states participated in the training. 

The farmers were nominated by Director, ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Zone-VII, Umiam (Meghalaya) and led by Dr. R.K. Chaurasia (Nodal Officer), Senior Scientist, KVK, Nagaland University.

Director, ICAR, Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan (VPKAS), Almora, in his inaugural address apprised the farmers about the role of institute in integrated development of hill agriculture. 

He emphasized on the need to adopt modern agro production technologies for income enhancement and promised all technological support from the institute.  

Coordinator, Training Cell, Dr. Nirmal Chandra, also informed that the training programmes were aimed at wider and effective dissemination of suitable agro-production technologies in NEH region. 

Apart from class room teaching, visits to institute museum, farm machinery workshop, organic farm, apiary unit, water conservation, mushroom composting unit and model village Bhagartola (Almora) were also organized.
