Promote floral market: Metsubo

Minister of Rural Development, Metsubo called for the need of floral market in the state which would not only help the entrepreneurs but also enhance the market flow.

The minister was speaking as special invitee at the inaugural programme of flower show Thursday, at Dimapur Club, Midland, organized by Dimapur District Floriculture Association (DDFA) under the theme “To Earth with love”.

Minister in his address suggested for the need of floral market saying that “Nagaland itself is a big market and if we can tap into the market than it will be a viable approach to having encouraged the entrepreneurs and local domestic income”.  In this, the minister also committed for a floral market in Dimapur after approaching the concern department.

He pointed that 300 species have been listed in Nagaland flora and fauna and so if local entrepreneurs start to take advantage of the available flower species and try to export it, it will be beneficial for all. 

On the other hand, minister also lamented on the insufficient nurseries saying that in order to maintain continuity, nursery should be maintained as important part.

He also encouraged the association to organize outreach programmes for more entrepreneurs to participate. He asked them not to divide amongst themselves but learn to grow and capture the market ensuring that import and export takes place accordingly.

Furthermore, the minister assured for participation from the government sector, if needed in the days to come.

At the programme, keynote address was delivered by DDFA president Abeny Ezung, where she maintained that the association at present comprises of about 90 active members. She also briefed about the objective of the association and mentioned this as the second event organized to encourage the younger grower members to maintain a sustainable and efficient flower production for marketing. She also mentioned that department of Horticulture could not be part of the programme this year. 

Altogether the exhibition comprised of 12 categories with attractive prizes. The show also included on the spot floral arrangement competition, organized for the students participation. 

The exhibition has also set up food stalls presenting exotic cuisine. Programme was chaired by Watila Longkumer, invocation prayer offered by Kaholi Piketo and special song was presented by Ajungla Longkumer.

The exhibition will culminate on March 14, which will be followed by prize distribution ceremony.
