Students in large numbers on Wednesday carried out a protest rally in the streets along Mayai Lambi (Imphal-Wabagai state highway), denouncing the alleged rape of a student by her teacher.

During the rally, the students demanded the culprit should be “hanged till death”. The alleged rape of a class X student by her boarding teacher came to light on August 27.

The incident came to light after the victim, attempted to attack the teacher Abujam Tombisana Singh with a knife. The victim girl alleged that she was sexually assaulted repeatedly by the teacher since March this year.

The teacher, who happened to be her paternal uncle, threatened her of dire consequence if she disclosed the matter. Unable to bear his repeated threats, she attempted to kill him.

At the first the teacher strongly denied the allegation but when the victim started to reveal the whole episode, the teacher surrendered to the police. Meanwhile, Wangoi police station has lodged a case against the accused teacher.

Meanwhile, protestors demanding befitting punishment blocked the motorcade of Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh, who was on his way to attend a function in Imphal West district.

The chief minister interacted with the protestors and promised to take action if the teacher was found guilty. A memorandum was also submitted to the chief minister.
