Protest over non-release of bills in Diphu

Correspondent Diphu, Apr 1 | Publish Date: 4/1/2019 12:22:50 PM IST

Hundreds of contractors and government officials on March 31 agitated against non-release of their pending bills and government cheques issued by finance department of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council.  The agitated contractors told media persons that since March 25 the officials of Diphu treasury had held up governments pay orders even after “extorting huge sum of money” from them.  They claimed that if the government ceiling (sanctioned fund) cannot be utilized or disbursed within the accurate time limit set by the finance department then the fund will be debited to the government exchequer.

On the other hand, Treasury Officer Amaranda Sharma claimed that the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council authority has issued large numbers of overdraft cheque which doesn’t tally with the government ceiling. The accountant and other officials of Diphu treasury have also shared identical views with the treasury officer. Later, the contractors and officials withdrew the agitation on Monday after the intervention by district administration. Meanwhile, DC Mukul Saikia has appointed investigating officer on the matter.
