Expressing displeasure over the absence of DEO and SDEO in Longleng since November 2020, the Phom Students’ Conference (PSC) Thursday served an ultimatum on the officers to reach the posting place within one week, failing which the union would take its own course of action.

In a press release, PSC president A Mane Phom and general secretary A Shunglam Phom said the decision was taken at its emergency executive council meeting held on January 30. PSC said that functioning of government schools without officer in-charge was affecting the life of the students.

The union queried how could “No work No pay” be enforced on absentee employee and teachers when head of the department (HoD) failed to turn up in their respective posting place. With the state government having issued notification on re-opening of school, the PSC has urged all the teaching staff under Longleng district to be present at their respective posting place and school. Asserting that it would be conducting surprise visit soon, the union cautioned that strict action would be initiated against any officers and teaching staff absconding from work.

Further, PSC has asked all schools under its jurisdiction to strictly adhere to SOPs/guidelines for reopening of schools. The union also pointed out that many government schools under its jurisdiction were functioning without maths and science teacher depriving students to get quality education.

PSC questioned School Education department how could it be so blind even after serving so many representations in the past years with regard to the shortage of subject teacher and allowing the school to function. In this regard, PSC urged the department to take up the matter seriously.
