Tension continues to run high in Bamon Kampu area of Imphal East as residents continued their agitation demanding the arrest of other culprit(s) of a murder involving an affair between a married woman and a local pradhan.

The police arrested GP pradhan of the area and wife of a local man who in collusion committed murder on April 21.

Khunjamayum Arun Singh of Bamon Kampu was found brutally murdered at a paddy field near his locality on April 21 . During investigation,  police arrested local GP pradhan (Naoshekpam Rabi Singh) and wife of the victim (Helen alias Thoi Devi) as prime accused in the murder case.

Locals alleged extra-marital affairs between Helen and local pradhan, Rabi Singh as reason behind the murder of Khunjamayum Arun Singh by the pradhan, who police alleged to be the paramour of the lady.

People of the locality (Bamonkampu under Irilbung police station of Imphal East district) intensified their agitation on Saturday alleging that police was deliberately delaying the investigation by not arresting other culprit(s) of the case.

After they attacked the police station for their alleged deliberate delay in the investigation process, locals imposed total blockade on the main road (Imphal-Yairipok inter district road) that connects Imphal with parts of Thoubal and Kamjong districts.

They continued the blockade till Sunday, blocking movement of all kinds of vehicles on the inter-district road by laying woods and piling stones throughout the stretch of the road within Bamon Kampu.

Commuters were hit hard by the road blockade as there were no diversion roads. The blockade also disturbed the movement of vehicles of essential services and media persons who were not exempted by agitators while passing through the area.

Meanwhile, talking to media person at the spot, members of joint action committee (JAC) formed in connection with the murder of Arun said that they will continue the agitation until their demands were fulfilled by the police and concern authority.

They alleged that the police, instead of questioning the murderers,  had been disturbing the families of the victim by taking their statements repeatedly.

Reiterating that the prime accused of the case must be awarded capital punishment, the JAC members demanded arrest of the remaining culprit(s) at the earliest.

They alleged that other than the adulterous wife of the victim and her paramour, some other accomplices of the pradhan were involved in the case and police have been deliberately avoiding the arrest of them.

They added that they will take up different forms of agitation until all the culprits involved in the crimes are arrested.
