Womenfolk of Nungnang (Luangreng) village under Noney district, Manipur staged a peaceful protest march against underground groups, urging them to leave the village and allow the villagers to live in peace.

The protest march was necessitated after a fierce gun-battle took place between ZUF and NSCN (I-M) cadres on Saturday.

Slogans like “Go away ZUF, NSCN (I-M) from our village,” “We want peace in village,” “Give peace a chance”, “Village area is not a war place”, etc. were displayed during the protest.

Meanwhile, a joint statement issued Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland), Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) and Zeliangrong Students’ Union on Sunday condemned NSCN (I-M) for allegedly torturing some members of the village authority of Luangreng village.

They alleged that seven villagers- Kadimiang Phaomei, Tinilung Panmei, Meiroulung, Kakhugang Phaomei, Gaiboulung Phaomei, Kadigampou, and Jaitangai- were assaulted on charges of sheltering ZUF cadres in the village on September 1.

The organizations further said that Zeliangrong people had suffered enough in the hands of both the army and the underground groups.
