In a major breakthrough, the Government of India Representative and Interlocutor for Naga Peace Talks, R.N. Ravi and also Nagaland Governor and the Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) have agreed to finalise “draft agreement” at an official meeting held at Nagaland Commissioner’s Guest House, opposite Super Market, here Tuesday.
This was revealed to Nagaland Post by highly placed sources, who also said that both negotiating parties agreed to finalise the “draft agreement” for early settlement to the decades old Naga political issue.
The sources informed that Ravi and the ten-member WC, NNPGs led by its convenor, N. Kitovi Zhimomi chalked out the “action plan” for the impending final agreement.
It was also disclosed that Ravi had insisted on “including minority tribes of Nagaland” in the peace process. Sources maintained that ‘final agreement’ would be signed “anytime soon” and that the two parties were working on formalising the agreement.
“The negotiations concluded last year (2019) October 31 and so there is no reason for us to wait for another year to sign the final agreement. We are working to finalise the agreement. Final agreement will be signed in a matter of weeks or months from now,” said a source privy to the meeting said.
The sources also said that the Interlocutor had sought for “some time” so as to “work things out” with the other negotiating party--[NSCN (I-M)]. It was learnt that no new agenda was discussed at the meeting.
Asked whether the two parties discussed Ravi’s June 16, 2020 letter addressed to the chief minister, the source said, “We did not discuss the letter. We have nothing to say on his affairs as Governor.”
Other members of WC, NNPGs included co-convenors – Zhopra Vero, Kiumukam, Hozheto Z Chophy, Isak Sumi, Toshi Walling; co-ordinator, Alezo Venuh; members – Raitu Chawang, Horangse Sangtam and secretary, Ghukiho T Zhimo.
It may be mentioned that the official meeting resumed after over four months of hiatus due to COVID-19 pandemic.
In a recent exclusive interview to Nagaland Post, N. Kitovi Zhimomi said that the two negotiating parties were preparing for the “signing ceremony” when COVID-19  pandemic occurred. “This unprecedented situation prevented us from meeting and chalking out the finer details for the signing ceremony,” Kitovi had said.
RN Ravi, NSCN (I-M) likely to meet
R.N Ravi is also likely to meet members of NSCN (I-M) led by its ato kilonser and chief negotiator, Th. Muivah by this week, sources informed.
