Recommending postponement of delimitation an insult: JAC

Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Tribal Hohos on Delimitation has termed BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav’s statement in the media about his party recommending postponing the proposed delimitation exercise in Nagaland based on the representation of party’s State president Temjen Imna Along and chief minister Neiphiu Rio as an insult to the Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah.

In a statement, the committee said Madhav should have been wiser while making such statements as delimitation was a constitutional obligation, not a petty party matter, to ensure equal opportunity of development to all sections of the society.

JAC observed that the BJP national general secretary had forgotten that the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister had in their wisdom and ardent desire to establish a nation of unity, progress and peace through equal opportunities to all citizens in every State of the country had notified the unfinished deferred task of delimitation in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur and Nagaland, whose process began in 2002.

It said Madhav was perhaps sleeping when Shah had recently told Rio that delimitation had to be implemented in Nagaland on priority and pointed out that Naga issue was a different matter.

According to JAC, Madhav being a national general secretary of BJP should have impressed upon the leaders of the State to abide by the Parliament and the country’s constitution.

“Unmindful of the position he holds, it is unfortunate that Madhav had forgotten the rationale that giving room to oppose or prevent parliamentary policies from being implemented in a State will only encourage vested-interest sections of the society,” the statement added.
