Konyak Union (KU) has appealed to chairman of High Powered Committee (HPC) for Covid-19 and chief minister Neiphiu Rio to reconsider implementation of the latest standard operating procedure (SOP) for Mon district.

In a representation to the HPC chairman through the minister in charge of Mon district for COVID-19, KU vice-president Honang Konyak and general secretary Wango Konyak said SOP for Unlock 4.0 should not be made applicable to Mon as unlike other districts of the State, there were no proper motorable roads connecting it with rest of the State.

Also, due to the fact that the district was most vulnerable as it shared borders with Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Myanmar, they said compromising health over economy might not be advisable at this stage.

Pointing out how it had been continuously expressing concern over shortage of medical staff in the State, KU feared that in the event of any emergency, existing medical manpower strength would not be able to handle the situation

The representation also stated that the District Hospital, Mon as well as the community health centres and primary health centres in the district were lagging behind in terms of proper medical equipment and infrastructure.

Considering the fact that the people of Mon had been actively and tirelessly working and sacrificing their resources, energy and lives in assisting the State government in containing the pandemic, KU observed that giving up the fight suddenly might undo all the sacrifices made by the people.

The representation also informed the HPC chairman that the citizens of Mon district was initiating a COVID Adaptive Response (CARE) model under the aegis of KU, which was duly endorsed and approved by him.
