Reka Mero defends KKTWA wrestling title

Reka Mero (27 years) from Lekromi village defended his title for the second time after edging out Wetilo Wetsah in the final bout of the 27th wrestling meet 2020 of Khezha-Kuzha Tephe Wrestling Association (KKTWA) held on Monday at Pfutsero Sports Complex under Phek district.

Last edition runners-up Kadalo Kapfo lost his bout in the semifinals against the first runners up Wetilo Wetsah and also lost the third position bout against D.Pfucupe Koza. 

The champion walked home with a cash prize of Rs.70,000 jointly sponsored by Rewelhi Kronu, additional director, Directorate of Economics & Statistics and KKTWA.

Wetilo Wetsah received Rs. 50,000 sponsored by Er. Visakho Therie, EE (Power) Kohima.

D.Pfucupe Koza and Kadalo Kapfo pocketed Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 20,000 sponsored by Daniel Kevie Koza, SDO (PWD) Pfutsero and Kelhikha Kenye, assistant mission director, Samagra Shiksha Nagaland. 

The top four including eight wrestlers Vieshepe Ladu, Wetepe Lomi, Komeyie Kapfo, Kudie Ritse,Tshote Kapfo, Wekhroto Mero, Putso Lasushe, Wecho Wetsa were selected to compete in the Chakhesang Wrestling Association Meet 2020. 

In the Under-16 years category, Phrupe Lomi took the title and Rhupe Losou bagged the runners up. Mesekhro Mero and Lhiprezo Mero came in 3rd and 4th position respectively.

Earlier, Neiba Kronu, monister, Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs graced the occasion as the guest speaker.

The minister advised the wrestlers to maintain discipline and take proper diet to keep fit as sportsmen.

The welcome address was delivered by Wezhepe Wetsa, president, KKTWA and inaugural function was chaired by Nyitso Therie.
