Rescued wildlife set free at Scaly Community Reserve in Mopungchuket
Oriental Bay Owl and Slow Loris

Slow Loris and an Oriental Bay Owl were handed over by Imkong through district administration to DFO Mokokchung Forest Division in an informal programme on September 20. 

A press release from range officer, Mokokchung Sashilemla stated that, as per the information given by Imkong, he said a pair of Oriental Bay Owl was captured by one person from Longkhum area and since it was not cared for properly, he retrieved it from that person to hand them over to the proper authorities through district administration. 

Rajesh Soundararajan, DC briefed on the acquisition of Slow Loris, wherein it was spotted by some Dobashis in Changtongya and reported to SDO (C) Changtongya. He also commended on the gesture shown by Imkong stating that this was a first of a kind experience in handing over the bay owl to the authorities. 

Aochuba, DFO lauded the district administration for their initiative and also appreciated the gesture shown by Imkong. He said that the wild animals will be released in their natural habitat and for that Scaly Community Reserve in Mopungchuket has been chosen. 

Abhinav, SDO (C) spoke on the occasion and said that such act would set a precedent among the people in our society and incentivise the citizens to carry  similar acts in times to come.

Imkumba, ACF gave vote of thanks. He appreciated the efforts of the district administration and all concerned towards this conservation.

A brief interaction with the village council of Mopungchuket was held the same day before proceeding to release the wild animals in Scaly Community Reserve.
