Amidst the lockdown, Christians across the state celebrated the resurrection Sunday from the confines of their homes due to the lockdown .

The unprecedented scenes of empty churches emerged, for the first time in the history of Nagaland, as Church leaders delivered sermons through live streaming.

All churches in the state remained closed to prevent large gatherings. Religious gatherings and processions too have been banned by the government in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

Resurrection Sunday, one of the holiest events for Christians, marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ after crucifixion.

The main annual event in the state is held at the World War II cemetery, organized by the Kohima Baptist Pastors’ Fellowship. However, this year, president KBPF and pastor Peraciezie Baptist Church Kohima Dr. Kevichalie Metha said the Church adhered to the directive of the NBCC, to join the ‘Easter Sunrise Service’ online.
