Rio led delegation seeks Central assistance

A delegation led by Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio Monday called on Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh at his office chambers in New Delhi, seeking Central assistance for various projects including relief work.

As a follow up of an earlier request made to the Prime Minister, the delegation requested the Centre to sanction developmental projects for Eastern Nagaland, CMO media cell stated in a press note.

Rio also apprised Rajnath Singh about the damages caused by recent natural calamities, and urged for central assistance under NDRF and interim aid to mitigate the ongoing relief and restoration works. 

Besides this, the delegation also requested for modernization and upgradation of Village Guards in Nagaland. Rio further requested Rajnath Singh for sanctioning another helicopter to increase flying hours for Nagaland particularly for far-flung areas of the State.

Rio also highlighted the various projects under the restructured North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS) and urged the Home minister, who is also chairman of the North Eastern Council, for sanctions of the proposed projects. Rajnath assured to look into the issues and also discuss the matter with DoNER minister to accelerate the sanctioning of the proposed projects.

Rio was accompanied by deputy chief minister Y. Patton, and a delegation of the Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union comprising of PDA ministers-- S. Pangnyu Phom, P Paiwang Konyak, Kashiho Sangtam; advisors-- Toshi Wungtung, Bongkhao Konyak including NPF MLAs-- EE Pangteang and CL John.
