PATHANAMTHITTA, Nov 2 (AGENCIES) | Publish Date: 11/2/2018 11:45:21 AM IST

police have planned elaborate security arrangements at Sabarimala and its base camps in connection with the ‘’Chithira Aattaviseshom’’ festival at the Sree Dharma Sastha Temple of Lord Ayyappa on November 6. Pathnamthitta district police chief T Narayanan told The Hindu that a total of 1200 police personnel would be deployed at Sabarimala, Pampa, Nilackal and at Vadasserikkara from November 3 to 6 with a view to ensuring the smooth the conduct of the annual festival. The temple will be opened on November 5 afternoon and closed after the ‘’Athazha puja’’ on November 6 evening.

The heavy police bandobust has been planned on the directions of the Director General of Police in the wake of the ongoing protests by various Hindu organisations against the Supreme Court verdict permitting women of all ages to Sabarimala.

Narayanan said Additional Director General of Police Anil Kanth would head the force to be deployed under two Inspectors General, five Superintendents of Police, and 10 Deputy Superintendents of Police.

The deployment would begin at Vadasseerikkara, Nilackal, Pampa and Sannidhanam from Saturday. All Pampa-bound vehicles would be subjected to thorough check on these day. Sabarimala and surrounding areas have been declared special security zone in the prevailing circumstances, he said.

Pilgrims would be permitted to go to Pampa or Sannidhanam from Nilackal only by noon on November 5 and that too only after they are being subjected to strict security checks.

Narayanan said only Ayyappa devotees would be permitted to go to Pampa and Sannidhanam or stay there during the period. Strict action would be taken against those who were found violating the directions issued by the police or district administration.
