St Andrew Church (SAC), Thenyizumi celebrated its golden jubilee under the theme “reconciliation and renewal” at church premises Thenyizu village under Phek district on December 20 and 21.

A press release from the organising committee stated that, Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Nagaland was the chief celebrant of the occasion. The celebration was marked by unveiling of the jubilee monolith by the chief celebrant and blessing by Huphutso Hilarious, the oldest surviving member of the first baptized batch.

In his message, the Bishop said jubilee was a time of challenge for faith and for influencing others, whereby he suggested the need to make differences through one’s way of life. He also congratulated the church for reaching the milestone along with the efforts of the pioneers.

Over the fifty years, he said that lots of things had changed in every sphere which were both visible and cannot be measured in terms of possession. However, he added that through all mental and internal attitudes, the Catholic faith has been well established in the village. He told the congregation to recommit their life by being honest, hardworking, sincere and live the life according to gospel values. He encouraged them to live a Christian life of faith and to be a witness of Christ to make a difference.

He also maintained that St. Andrew High School has nurtured and transformed the society with education which has resulted in the upbringing of many influential and successful personalities.

President of the Catholic Association of Nagaland (CAN), Dr. Dzuvichu shared greetings and congratulated the church on the historic milestone of the golden jubilee.

He also paid tribute to the pioneers whose dedication had created a community of faith in the village. Welcome address was delivered by pariest priest Thenyizu Fr. Sojan Xavier

In the inaugural programme on December 20 evening, greeting was shared by CAN secretary general Er. Mhaseto Nakhro, blessing and releasing of the souvenir and memento by Fr. Vemedo Joseph Kezo, director, St Joseph College Hostel, Jakhama.
