SAMETI organises training on organic farming

Two-day training programme on “PoP of Organic Farming for FPOs/FPCs/officers under MOVCDNER” was organised by department of Agriculture, Nagaland got underway on July 16 at State Agricultural Management & Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) training hall.

A press release from SAMETI Medziphema director and i/c principal IETC, Dr. Watimongla Jamir stated that, resource person from MOVCDNER, New Delhi, Dr. Ajay Singh Rajput, in his speech said that NER has a good potential for organic farming and the region was climatically suited to produce a variety of organic crops. 

Renphamo Lotha, joint director of Agriculture, in his keynote address gave an overview of the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER) in Nagaland. 

He remarked that by practicing jhum cultivation, the farmers were encouraging organic farming in the state.

Earlier, inaugural programme was chaired by Dr. Watimongla Jamir. She also gave a short speech on the background and functioning of Integrated Extension Training Centre (IETC). 

Vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. James Kuba Chawang, deputy director, Agriculture.

Resource experts for the training were Dr. Ajay Singh Rajput, regional director, Regional Centre of Organic Farming and Sanjay Kumar, training & capacity building coordinator, MOVCDNER, New Delhi, Dr. Beremjungla, lecturer & officer incharge, Bio-Control Lab and Mhonchumo, AO, Bio-Fertilizer Lab.
