SASRD, NU distributes onion seeds to beneficiaries at 3 villages

AICRP (Vegetable Crops), department of Horticulture, Nagaland Centre, SASRD, NU under TSP (Tribal Sub Plan)-Onion conducted seed distribution programme for onion beneficiaries at New Socüünoma village, Chumukedima and Bade village on August 6. 

A press release from SASRD stated that, looking at the consumption and production rate of onion in Nagaland, Dr. Major Singh, Director of ICAR-Directorate of Onion and Garlic Research, Rajgurunagar, Pune, Maharashtra and professor Akali Sema, principle investigator, TSP-Onion felt the need to popularize onion cultivation among tribal farmers of Nagaland.
CO-PIs of TSP-Onion, Nagaland Centre Dr. Aastik Jha, Dr. Waluniba and Dr. Moakala Changkiri distributed kharif onion seeds and setts (planting material) to the best performing beneficiaries of 2018-2019 to encourage and popularize onion cultivation. 
The onion beneficiaries expressed gratitude and assured full cooperation for the success of the programme.
