Seyochung Area Students’ Union (SASU) will be carrying out drive to prevent influx of illegal immigrants under its jurisdiction, taking into consideration the publication of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam.

In a press release SASU president K. Chumseli Anar and general secretary Holise Sangtam said that the drive was to “segregate genuine Indian citizens from the illegal immigrants.”

In this regard, SASU said that during the drive student volunteers will be assigned to verify documents of non-locals “at any time and at any place within its jurisdiction.”

It therefore directed ILP holders to carry along with them their ILP and other relevant documents.

SASU said that those who cannot produce the documents, during the process of verification of ILP and other related documents, would be considered as illegal immigrants. It also cautioned that the defaulters would be handed over to the district administration and police or would be dealt with stern action as deemed fit by the students’ unions. In this regard, SASU urged the public to extend full co-operation to the union “as the current issue/threat is a common concern faced by the public.”
