Save our Mother Earth

By Nagaland Post | Publish Date: 6/4/2019 12:40:27 PM IST

Our earth is the most beautiful planet in our solar system. It is the only planet on which life exists with incredible biodiversity. It has bestowed human beings with incredible and beautiful nature in the form of mountains, rivers, forests and various natural resources that helped human beings to survive and initiated our evolution. Before 500 A.D., men had a good relationship with mother Earth.  But since humans developed cities and industries, the modern lifestyle has changed. Man has been using and misusing nature up to its limit. Now we are tearing up remote corners of the planet looking for crude oil and coal, and our forests and wild animals are disappearing. We can’t say the Earth belongs to humans. Our earth belongs to all living beings. But we have overpowered many species and killed them for our use. Now thousands of species are extinct because their habitat is gone. As a matter of fact, these animals, birds, insects have actually built a better environment for us. Through deforestation, urbanisation, industrialization, and pollution, our environmentis being destroyed. Global warming and climate change are major threats to Earth and all human beings. Due to carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases emitted by civilization, heat is building up in the atmosphere at a rate not seen for ten million years. Pollution is becoming a great killer. Levels of air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution, and food contamination are high. Human interference has brought nature close to destruction where the ozone layer has a hole, the sea is rising, and the ice caps of Antarctica and Greenland are melting. Now global warming is warning us that climate change is not a hoax and it is coming. Mother Earth is in danger which means life on earth is in danger. Let us come together to save our life-giving mother Earth. All these environmental changes are warnings of global destruction. Now we must all become aware of the consequences.

What we can do as people, is change our unnatural lifestyle to the extent that we can. Going green is easier than you think. There are little things you can doevery day to help reduce greenhouse gases and make less harmful impacts on our environment. Taking care of the Earth is not just a responsibility- it’s a privilege. Here are some ways we can do to save the Earth:
• Plant trees to create more green spaces because it provides food and oxygen and absorbs carbon dioxide. They help save energy, clean the air and help combat climate change.
• Save wild animals by reducing the consumption of meat and consume more vegetables.
• Avoid using one-time use plastic straws, cups, drinking bottles (reusable water bottles).
• Carry a shopping bag to avoid the use of plastic bags.
• Clean the environment.
• Walk or ride your bike to work, school anywhere you can, or take public transport in this way you can reduce greenhouse gases.
• Compost. Think how much trash you make in a year. Compost makes a great fertilizer.
• Change your light bulbs. Compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) last ten times longer than a standard bulb and use at least two-thirds lessenergy.
• Turn off lights when you’re not in the room and unplug appliances when you’re not using them. It only takes second to be environmentally conscious.
At the end of the day, your little efforts can make a big difference to our better environment.
