 RHITSHO MERO SCORES 7 GOALS AS SZFC THRASH GOLDEN LION FC 12-0

Rhitsho Mero scored seven as debutant Sechü Zubza FC (SZFC) thrashed Golden Lion FC 12-0 at the ongoing 25th Classic Cup played here at Kohima local ground on Saturday.

SZFC had taken part in the last two editions of the Kohima Football League and the KTC Cup, wherein, the club emerged as the champions of the KFL Season-2, and runners-up of KTC Cup, 2018. 

SZFC fans that came to watch had a day to remember as their talisman Mero scored seven and the other players contributing a goal each for the team. The goalkeeper of Golden Lion FC was replaced in the 28th minute with an injury but with no second choice goalkeeper, the team fielded another player which resulted in six more goals.

The first half saw Zubza team scoring seven goals in the process and adding another five in the second half. Zubza captain Mero scored seven goals came in the 9th, 14th, 25th, 30th, 44th, 46th, and 49th minute, while Petevizo, Hanglen Chang, Yhunshalo Kemp, Visalie Mezhu, Medoneituo were also on the scoresheet during the match. 

Nyenshen FC Tuensang, champions of Loyem Memorial Trophy beat 10-man United Sporting Club 3-1 in the second match of the day.

Tuensang team had to work an extra mile to overcome the opponent team as they came from behind to snatch a victory. The first half saw a slow start with both teams failing to make much impression. Tuensang team were undone in the midfield area, while United Sporting looked for counter attacks to break the deadlock. And Vilazolie made the breakthrough from a defensive error scoring a stunning volley into the net in the last minute to give the lead for United Sporting Club.

The second half saw Tuensang team making a comeback as United sat deep to defend the lead.  Mustape Tagoe, an international player from Ghana, won a penalty for Nyenshen FC after he was fouled inside the penalty area in the 35th minute. But their winger Khakevi weak shot was easily saved by custodian Keneibu Krose.

However, Khakevi made up the mistake by setting up an assist to their captain Imlong Chaba to head the ball into the net and get the equaliser in the 44th minute for Tuensang team. United defender Yavikholie Vüpru was send off in the 45th minute for two offenses. 

Substitute Vekhruto Resu came to rescue for Nyenshen FC as he scored from an open play to take the lead. Khakevi got his name on the scoresheet with a solo effort with two minute remaining for the final whistle. 

Ghanaian player Tagoe was unlucky not to score a goal on his debut in Kohima as he hit the crossbar twice in the second half.

Up next, Nyenshen FC Tuensang will play against Sechü Zubza FC in the pre-quarterfinal round.
