Rhitsho Mero scored four goals as defending champions Sechü Zubza FC overpowered debutant team A Yhome FC 5-1 at the ongoing Kohima Football League-3 here at IG Stadium, Kohima on Monday.

Despite a better start for Yhome FC, Zubza team swift counter attack resulted in a goal as their captain Rhitsho Mero opened the account for the team in the 8th minute. Yhome FC lacked the composure as they failed to exert pressure on their opponent. Mero added his second with a minute remaining in the first half to double the lead for Zubza.

There was no stopping for Zubza team as their captain scored his hat-trick in the 48th minute. To bring more woes to the debutant team, Shurhosul Zhotso found the back of the net in the 61st minute to make it 4-0.

Zubza team conceded their first goal in the third edition when Vilhoubeituo Yhome rose up on the occasion to score a goal for A Yhome FC in 75th minute.

But Zubza team was not done yet as Mero added his fourth goal in the 79th minute to make it 5-1 and get their three points at the end of the final whistle. 

Rhitsho Mero with six goals in two matches is now leading the highest goal scorer of the tournament. Zubza team now leads the table with six points in two matches and a goal difference of 11+ to defend their title.

In the second match, Vanguard FC Tseminyu made a late comeback in the second half to beat debutant Kohima Eagles FC 2-1. A last minute penalty goal from their captain Sinenlo Kath helped Vanguard FC to get three points in the encounter.

Kohima Eagles got off to a good start as Minerva Punjab winger Hitova Ayemi scored from a spot kick in the 24th minute. 

In the second half, it was a different story as Vanguard rallied back from behind to find the equaliser through Kenyuyhun Khing in the 90th minute. When it seemed like the match was heading for a draw, Sinenlo Kath scored from a penalty in the 93rd minute after the referee awarded a controversial spot-kick, and helped the team win the match 2-1.
