Security forces in Manipur recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunitions during a search operation in Bishnupur district on Friday. Police suspect the recovered cache of arms and ammunitions were hidden by cadres of a KYKL group.

The police source said that the cache of arms and ammunitions were recovered during an extensive search operation at Ishok Pat under Nambol police station early Friday morning.

The operation was conducted by a combined team of state police commandos in Bishnupur district and a column of 16 Assam Rifles under the supervision of Bishnupur district additional SP Okram Wangkhomba.

The recovered items included: one AK 56 rifle along with a magazine, two 9mm pistols with two 9mm pistol magazine, one.22mm pistol with magazine, five lethod bombs, one handheld radio set, 22 rounds of AK 56 ammunition, eight rounds of 9mm ammunition, 10 rounds of .22mm ammunition, nine rounds of M-16 ammunition and one M-16 grenade.

The recovered items were handed over to Nambol police station for further necessary action. No arrest was made, the source added.

The operation was launched base on a reliable input regarding a suspected hideout of rebel cadres in the area, the source said. The area where the extensive search operation was conducted lies within the Loktak Lake which was once a haven for the rebel groups until security forces flushed them out by launching a massive search operation around a decade ago.
