District administration in collaboration with key stake holders and line departments under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) organized a seminar-cum-awareness on teen pregnancy at DC conference hall, Wokha on June 22, with Dr. Noune Terhase (gynecologist) as the resource person.

According to DIPR report, Adolescent Girls Club (AGC) and girl students from different schools attended the programme. Addressing the participants, Dr. Noune said focus on teenage pregnancy was imperative because it has become a burden not only to the family but society as well. He also added that to prevent such cases, awareness and sensitization was required to be spread among adolescent girls.
Pointing some of the risk factors due to early pregnancy, Dr. Noune stated that cervical cancer, anaemia and sexually transmitted diseases, were likely to be suffered by teenagers during pregnancy and therefore urged the participants to be aware.
Further, he added it was difficult to raise a child and encouraged them to have the sense of responsibility for every action they take or make.
Dr. Wonchano E. Enny women welfare officer (MSK) Wokha delivered the welcome address in the programme chaired by district co-ordinator, MSK, Wokha Chichanthung L Ezung. Sanitary packs were also distributed to the participants.
