Nagaland Development Outreach (NDO), development wing of NBCC, along with Prodigals Home- Childline Dimapur organised a seminar on strengthening child protection mechanism for church leader and Village Child protection Committee (VCPC) at NMM conference hall here on Friday. 
The resource persons in the seminar were Prodigals Home, director, K Ela and advocate, Tia Longkumer. 
Speaking on the topic “understanding child protection issues: Nagaland context”, K Ela dwelled on child protection issue that needed collective approach. With regard to child protection issues and challenges, she pointed out major drawbacks such as ignorance, indifference, non- reporting of cases, mishandling of cases, weak governance, inadequate facilities and resources, time consuming criminal justice system, poor knowledge and skills by duty bearers and children.
She called upon the church leaders to take up the issue of sexual abuse in children in a broader way instead of shying away reminding that the more they shy away the more children were victimized. 
She further said, “Every child that you encounter is a divine appointment” adding that every child was equal and they deserve to be love and protected.  
Ela also spoke on the significance of child protection mechanism and the role of Church workers and community leaders in child protection measures. 
Advocate, Tia Longkumer spoke on child protection laws, Police: laws relevant in Nagaland. He highlighted the various Act implemented as per the law of Juvenile justice Act. 
Earlier, the programme began with an invocation and welcome address by NDO, director reverend, C Amop Noklak.
