Sensitization on harmful effects of plastics in Niuland, Jalukie

In an effort to reduce the usage of single use plastics, the district administration Dimapur in collaboration with CAN Youth and ADC Niuland organized a community sensitization on harmful effects of plastics use and a one-day training on paper bag making on  May 10  at ADC hall, Niuland.

A press release from CAN Youth secretary, Kivitoli K Sema stated that chief functionary CAN Youth, Jenpu Rongmei through a slide show has presented on harmful of plastics use and how community can reduce the single plastics use. 
28 women from different Self-Help Groups (SHGs) were trained on paper bag making.  ADC Niuland, Athrila S also interacted with the SHGs and encouraged to promote paper bags in Niuland sub-division. He also assured to give full cooperation in promoting paper bags as alternate of single plastics use in Niuland. CAN Youth team also interacted with the students and sensitized them in reduction of plastics use and making their school plastics free zone.
The paper bags training were imparted by the CAN Youth trainers, Marina Rongmei, Mary Konyak, Sentiwati, Sentimongla and assisted by Master of Social Work (MSW) interns from NEISSR, Dimapur.
The sensitization programme was attended by schools, women organization, community leaders and staff of ADC office Niuland.
Jalukie: A one-day awareness programme on “plastic waste management” was held with ADC Jalukie, Dr. Tino Jongshi as resource person at St. Xavier’s Hr. Sec. School Jalukie with the theme “Say no to single use of plastic items” on May 15.  EAC Jalukie, C. Wangan Albert Hau (former Naga Orpheus Hunt winner) and guests attended the function. Biodegradable jute bags were also distributed to the students of the institution.
