Several injured in inter-village clash

Several people were injured in an inter-village clash in Manipur’s Noney district, official reports said on Monday. Among the injured, at least seven villagers sustained severe injuries and were shifted to hospital for treatmant.

The clash erupted between the villagers of Jouzangtek and Nungsai Lamkau after an argument over earth dumping site on Sunday evening.

Reports said that during the course of expansion of a 50 km road from Tupul to Bishnupur at the inter-village border, villagers of Jouzangtek opposed the dumping of the earth cut down from the hill.

They insisted that the earth removed from the area within Nungsai Lamkou village should be dumped in their area which the villagers of later opposed.

As the argument over the matter escalated, the villagers from both sides started attacking each other by holding deadly arms.

A team of police from Bishnupur district headquarter immediately rushed to the spot and controlled the situation after a brief struggle. 

In the clash, the seven villagers who sustained serious injuries were evacuated to Bishnupur district hospital after administering first aid.

With tension still running high between the two villages, armed police have been detailed in the area, the report said.
