Silver jubilee of English department at SJC Jakhama

Department of English for St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous) Jakhama celebrated its silver jubilee at college indoor stadium  under the theme “Reminiscing the past, envisaging better future” on Wednesday.

Joint director Agriculture department N.Jacob Yanthan graced the occasion as the guest speaker. Yanthan in his address said the department’s existence of 25th years speaks volume of its dedication and commitment to the cause and advancement in the field of education.

He added that jubilee was not only a time for celebration, but also for thanksgiving and retrospection, whereby he urged the students to debate and retrospect for welfare of the students and college in general.

He said that students and youths of today were the citizens of tomorrow and future leaders, and therefore he reminded the students to realize their responsibility. He told them to lay a strong foundation of their character and personality and to display intellectual maturity and discretion at any given situation.

While encouraging the students to uphold hard work, honesty and courage to establish their career and profession, he also impressed upon the students to work hard towards achievement of academic excellence and to build a just and healthy society. 

Vice-principal SJC Jakhama, Rev. Fr. Dr. George Keduolhou Angami said that knowledge was important and has a purpose to achieve, wherein he  urged  the students to aim high and achieve their goals as knowledge has no limit. He also reminded the students to have balanced view not only on material knowledge but also on spiritual knowledge.

Welcome address was given by Meribeni Ngullie, co-ordinator department of English, speech on behalf of alumni by Atheo Ezung, jubilee blessing by vicar general, diocese of Kohima Rev.Fr. Neisalhou Carolus  Kuotsu.
