SJC students visit SMHI, Kohima

Diploma course counselling psychology students of St. Joseph’s college (autonomous) Jakhama visited state mental health institute (SMHI) on January 7 to help build health awareness among adolescents and young adults.

According to a press release by Fr. C. Joseph, counsellor SJC, Dr. Viketoulie and his team welcomed the students and made arrangements for a two hour interaction on stress, mental health issues, depression and mobile phone addiction etc.
During the visit, Fr. C. Joseph, presented a paper on “mental health of the young”, and stressed on the present scenario where adolescents experiencing physical, emotional, cultural and social shocks and added that they live in a polluted environment. He also added that the traditional culture and its values are being substituted by modern cultures like drugs, alcohol, internet, etc.
Meanwhile, the students actively participated in the interaction with Dr. Viketoulie, while Dr. T. Wabang, medical superintendent expressed his gratitude on behalf of the patients, hospital staff and thanked SJC for its visit. Various cultural performances were also performed by the students.
