Advisor of Food and Civil Supplies, Pukhayi Assumi called the economy of Nagaland underdeveloped and primitive and added that skill development was an important agenda in the country.

According to the organisers of the programme, Pukhayi said this during the certificate-cum-Kaushal Bima insurance awarding ceremony held Tuesday, at Hotel Saramati, jointly organized by the Muru Infra Developers, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and Construction Skill development Council of India.

Pukhayi asked the awardees and the youths to give their full determination and contribute to their respective families and the state.

While exhorting at the occasion, Pukhayi also spoke about his visit to Japan four years ago as part of an educational tour, where he said that people there were skilled and involved in their busy profession, which was not the case here.

He pointed this out as the reason why the economy of Japan has made much progress.

Altogether, 30 skilled workers in the construction sector for Assam and Nagaland were awarded certificates under the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), a constituent of PMKVY.

Earlier, Pinaki Sankar Deb, regional manager of NE & WB, Construction Skill Development Council of India said that the scheme was the consequence of the gap of demand and supply in the country and this was an output based system. Giving further details about the scheme, he said that the certificates were internationally recognized. He added that in future, for every job whether in the government sector or private sector, these certificates will be of much value. He said that along with the certificates, the awardees were also getting insurance of Rs 2 lakh, which would have a validity of three years, and Rs 500 on completion of programme.

It may be mentioned that RPL is a platform to provide recognition to the informal learning or learning through work to get equal acceptance as the formal levels of education. The programme aims to impart skills training for existing workers to align the competencies of the unregulated workforce to the NSQF under PMKVY 2.0 RPL scheme. Under RPL, Muru Infra Developers has till now assessed more than 3000 workers.

Other guests included NDPP president Chingwang Konyak and editor of Greenland Nagaland Dr. Swaraj Mukherjee.
