Soil testing lab & SHC launched in Longleng

Deputy commissioner, Longleng M. Shayung Phom has officially launched the digital mini soil testing lab & soil health card (SHC) at Longleng under the department of Soil & Water Conservation at DSCO office, Longleng on February 29. 

According to DIPR report, in his inaugural speech Shayung Phom who graced the occasion as the special invitee congratulated the department for providing the facilities of soil testing that would benefit the farmers of the district in a big way. In order to avail the facilities to the maximum and benefit the farmers through soil testing, Shayung appealed to the department to disseminate the facilities available to the farmers through seminar for mass awareness. He also called upon the agri and allied departments to built a good team work through coordination and cater to the needs of the farmers. 
Lamenting that such facilities provided by the government to the people were misused in the past, he urged the department officials to utilize the lab judiciously. DC while acknowledging the problems faced by the department like poor infrastructure, deplorable condition of office building, encroachment of government site by the private individuals, however asserted that it was encouraging to see the presence of the officers in the district which was an important concern as a government servant. 
Earlier, in her keynote address Ridila Sangtam, soil surveyor said that the main focus of the lab was to promote healthy soil for mass scale production of crops. She informed that three villages from three blocks were identified for soil testing initially and later it will cover other villages in a phase manner for coverage of entire district.
Vote of thanks was proposed by Owshing Phuhlom, SCA. Formal demonstration of soil testing was done by Denei, SCA, Toden, SCA and Ridila, soil surveyor. Agri. & allied departments, presidents PPC, Phomla Hoichem and her colleagues, other NGOs, KVK, attended the programme chaired by Senlichila DSCO, Longleng.
