The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCAs), in a joint venture with the veterinary department, conducted a free anti-rabies camp on Saturday, at Indisen and Aokong community hall. This is the first camp of this kind that SPCAs has conducted in Nagaland.
Addressing media persons, SPCAs vice president, N Joseph Lemtur and executive secretary, Marian Rao, lamented that though the Supreme Court had issued directives to establish SPCAs in every district to prevent cruelty to animals, the state government has not provided adequate land and other facilities to the society to construct infirmaries and animal shelters.
At present, they said they were operation out of a space provided by the Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) Dimapur on a temporary basis. Lemtur said their base of operations in this space was officially launched in 2016 and it is located at CVO office complex, Burma Camp area Dimapur. He also said that with the contributions of various NGOs and the CVO, SPCAs in Nagaland has been trying to curb the increasing number of animal cruelty cases. He said that there were about 100 members registered in SPCAs. The camp was also attended by ADCP, Relo who is also the vice president of SPCAs.
A total of 252 dogs were vaccinated at the camp

Launched on December 3,1990. Nagaland Post is the first and highest circulated newspaper of Nagaland state. Nagaland Post is also the first newspaper in Nagaland to be published in multi-colour.
