 (Speech of Yaruiwo, Q. Tuccu)

Dear Countrymen,

On this auspicious occasion of the 40th Republic Day of Nagalim, I greet each and every one of you in the precious name of our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ.

I pay homage to our brave leaders who have left a legacy of living history for Naga future generations. They are committed political people, who cherished their land and history. They respected their right and freedom, identity and culture and defended them at the cost of their precious lives. The future of the Nagas is alive and secured on account of their sacrifices.

Our leaders in the past declared that Nagalim will be for the Nagas and Nagalim shall be for Christ. Our national movement is based on these two core foundations and we are guided by these principles and they have brought the Nagas thus far.

The world is in the process of constant change and we have seen the waves of imperialist force one after the other in our land. We have withstood these forces and have not allowed these forces to subjugate us. It took decades for the Government of India to admit that the Indo-Naga issue is a political matter and not military, which finally brought the two parties to the negotiating table.

It is beyond doubt that our existence and our future have been threatened by the so called 16 Point Agreements and the 1975 Shillong Accord. Nothing is final on the Naga issue until an honourable negotiated political settlement is agreed upon based on the 3rd August , 2015 Frame Work Agreement.

After more than decade-long negotiations, under the leadership of Late Chairman Isak Chishi Swu and our Chief Negotiator, Th. Muivah the Government of India and the NSCN, as two entities, mutually agreed and signed the historic ‘Framework Agreement’. It is the foundation based on which a new relationship between the two entities will be established. Both the parties are committed to abide by this ‘Agreement’.

I am grateful to Naga people, its civil society organizations, tribe organizations, churches, prayer groups and others for their commitment and contribution. As we continue to endeavour in order to realize Indo-Naga political solution, your continued support and collective commitment is deeply valued.

We are also ready to understand together with our neighbours and prepared to take a realistic approach respecting each other history and we also thank all the well-wishers and support groups from Nagalim and elsewhere who are in support of the on-going political dialogue between the GoI and the NSCN. Lastly, I wish everybody a very happy Republic Day!
