Sports club Nagaland end  Gothai Cup campaign with defeat

Sports Club Nagaland (SCN) missed their chance to qualify for the last 16 as they lost 5-4 against Halvikens SK 1 on penalty after the match ended in a goalless draw at Gothenburg, Sweden on Thursday. 

In a remarkable journey for the young Nagaland team, SCN managed to score two goals in the world’s largest International Youth Football Tournament which is being held from July 14 to 20. 

The team was led by FIFA Grade-A coach Sebastian Rasmussen and State coach Ruopfuo Meyase, and other officials along with the advisor for Youth Resources and Sports, Zhale Neikha. 

The U-15 girls football team who went to Sweden was led by captain Imlimerenla, Diethoseiu Zhale, Chimmushe,  Vipeni Tsuipu, Hupolu Hesuh, Mhaselu Swuro, Medokhono Nakhro, Kevisenuo Krabvu, Nirmala Rai, Abeno Humtsoe, Dziesekonuo, Ahenu Kikhi, Keni Kent and Neke Konyak.

The initiative was taken by Youth Resources and Sports department to send a team to the international tournament to help the players gain exposure and also as part of the year long centenary celebration of legendary Naga footballer Dr T Ao.  The Department in collaboration with Soccer Competition Asia also conducted football training session for four months at IG Stadium, Kohima to compete at the international event.
