Swachh Survekshan Grameen (SSG) 2018, an initiative of ministry of drinking water and sanitation, to rank all states and districts on the basis of qualitative and quantitative evaluation, was launched on Tuesday at Ura Academy Hall, Kohima. 

The launching programme was graced by additional commissioner Avineet Kumar as special guest.  In his address, Kumar said cleanliness was needed by everyone to live a healthy life especially for the children. He said recent landslide, sinking and clogged drainages were related to lack of cleanliness and therefore urged the citizens to cultivate the habit of keeping the public places clean. He said Swachh Survekshan Grameen was not only for rating and prize but it was about maintaining a healthy environment and for which one should create awareness and educate the children. Sharma also sought the cooperation and support, saying that without the support and cooperation of the villagers the mission will not be successful.

Consultant district water and sanitation mission (DWSM) PHED Thepfulie Theünuo in his address highlighted on the objective on Swacch Survekshan Grameen and said around 40-60 official from centre would be undertaking a surprise visit to the villages to check cleanliness and sanitation from August 1-30. 

He said that survey would be conducted at block level, district level and state. Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2018 was announced by the ministry of drinking water and sanitation on July 13. It will cover 698 districts, 6,980 villages and 50 lakhs citizens would be covered under the survey, Theünuo said.   Top performing states and districts will be awarded nationally on October 2 later this year. A review on village swachhata index was given by JE Kohima rural sub-division Er. Vikedule Thetso.

Earlier, the programme chaired by Rebecca Kikon began with an invocation by associate pastor CBCK Rev. Vezopa Rhakho. Keynote address was delivered by executive engineer PHED, special song was presented by Renchamo while vote of thanks was proposed by SDO Er. K. Solo. The programme was attended by VCC chairman, other village leaders, public and others.
